Do we still need to use a condom?

I'm 17 and my boyfriend of almost 3 years and I have recently begun to have sex. We were both virgins before have had no other partners. As I’ve been told, condoms protect against children and STD's. So my boyfriend and I are wondering if there's any need for a condom. A child is the last thing both of us want right now, and I have come to trust him enough to know that will never ejaculate inside and will always pull out in time. Is it okay for him to keep pulling out before he comes or do we still need to use a condom?

ANSWER

You are playing with fire using the withdraw before ejaculation method of birth control. At least two disastrous scenarios suggest themselves. First, some ejaculate leaks out before the pullout, and your boyfriend does not even know it. Second, he gets so carried away in the lovemaking that he cannot or simply does not stop before his eruption. If your lovemaking is passionate at all (i.e., you go to the point of losing yourself and losing control in the lovemaking – something that is highly desirable to do!), this second scenario is almost certain to happen eventually. Absolutely, I recommend using a condom unless you are prepared to accept an unwanted pregnancy.
