4 Freedoms Integration Exercise (6): Out of Body
Exercises To Do On Your Own
OUT OF BODY
Time for Exercise: five to 30 minutes
Properties Required: none
Steps:Each evening as you prepare to sleep, give your deeper consciousness instructions for going out of your body.
1.Relax your body completely.
2.Quiet your mind with a meditative practice.
3.Reassure your ego self that you will be safe while you travel and that you can return to your body whenever you wish to, by associating your return with some simple action such as moving your arms or legs.
4.Visualize your consciousness rolling out of your physical body in a transparent body double. This self can travel through matter and instantaneously traverse any distance. This self can move freely about in time, space, and alternative dimensions. As your transparent self leaves, it can look back and see your regular physical body at rest.
5.Give your deep consciousness instructions that you wish to travel out of your body, to remain conscious during the experience, and to remember it afterwards.
Variation:
Do this with your lover and agree to meet somewhere in your out-of-body state.
Comments:
Separating your consciousness from your physical body with full awareness is perhaps the best possible preparation for crossing the barrier between life and death. If your consciousness can leave the body, what does that mean about death? If the body dies, can consciousness just leave the body and not return? Would you assume that consciousness dies with the physical body? The real challenge is to remain aware of personal identity as consciousness separates from physical reality. Out-of-body experiences (OBEs) seem to be the perfect training to do this. Other practices that require similar skills are remote viewing, astral projection, and lucid dreaming.
